Getting more out of milk

Royal FrieslandCampina is the biggest cooperative dairy company in the world. After the merger of Friesland Foods and Campina early 2009, a new department was installed for milk valorization and allocation (MVA). The goal of the department is to use quantitative techniques for allocating milk to the most profitable product options. ArgusI supported MVA with setting up their initial models and organization. Furthermore, we developed a management game that represents five operational months during which six players (cheese, consumption milk, caseinate, butter, powder and EVAP) claim amounts of the overall raw milk supply. In the game, the players learn the basics of milk valorization and most of all how to compromise individual goals with the overall corporate goal of profit maximization.
